Babbel – Learn French App Reviews

So irritating

This app cant get it right. Its flashy and cute, but forget about learning two languages at once. And how can you test out of basic courses? I had started with an advanced course, but now that Ive purchased the app, Im forced to start over on basic courses? Poor at best Babbel. I expected better. And will certainly cancel.

Great App , but poor privacy .

Just when I downloaded it , I was so happy to learn my favorite languages as I see its full version. But then I reach the course 2 of Basic learning , its a paid course . Not only course 2 but all of them . The app would be all for free ..... Im really disappointed to the developer ....

Horrible

Total RIP-OFF!!!!!

Very annoying bug in review mode

In the flashcard review section, if I tap on the red face for a flashcard, that card will keep appearing again and again even though I tap on the green face the second time. This means that for every review I have to go through these same cards and this is extremely annoying.

Im having fun learning French!

I am learning French rapidly. The app presents some vocabulary and then tests the vocabulary in different ways. Then it introduces some grammar with the vocabulary and tests understanding. With the repetition, I find I absorb the material well. Of course, the pronunciation practice isnt what you would have with a live teacher, but Im not paying for a live teacher. Im very satisfied.

Pretty Good!

For as far back as I can remember, I wanted to speak french. When I finally decided to try to learn, I agonized, literally, over which software to use (either Babbel or Rosetta) for quite a while before I decided to give Babbel a try. Im VERY happy that I did! Its extremely user-friendly & the lessons are easy to grasp. If you have difficulty you can repeat the lesson as often as you like until you get it. Also, there are wonderful little info balloons chocked full of additional background information/explanations that pop-up at just the right time to give you better understanding. The feature that swayed me the most was the fact that Babbel gives you the translations for the language that you are learning & being that association helps me retain information better, this was best for me. Now... "only" two complaints! (1)- This iPhone companion app tells you that youve entered the wrong answer when you have to type the translation, even though you entered it FLAWLESSLY *flips hair* (2)- Similar problem occurs with the voice recognition when you are doing the Listen & Repeat portions of each chapter. Software will not accept the spoken answer or keeps cutting you off by indicating that you were incorrect before youve even had a chance to say anything! That is VERY frustrating

Subscribed, but cannot access any course

I just want to give myself an opportunity to learn french, so that I subscribed this via iTunes as a birthday gift to myself. Sadly, I cannot access any course after being charged, and ironically, I can see the invoice on both the app, and the website, they both tell me my subscription will expire on some day later...

Very limited

Even if you register, you can only access one lesson. You must subscribe and pay for more.

Meh

App works ok. Program is boring. Lots of typing in missing words in sentences and not much instruction. Gets tedious quickly. Vocabulary lessons focus on arcane subject matter that has little practical application for someone just trying to learn everyday conversational French. Ive used a bunch of French language apps and this is one of the weaker ones. Would not recommend.
